This is not a generic program adapted for children. It is the only camp in this curation designed specifically for ages 6 to 11, with a pedagogical structure, monitor-to-student ratio, and physical environment built for this group.

What makes this program suitable for children aged 6 to 11?

Most British summer schools require a minimum of A2 English to operate. This program works with eight levels, from A0 (absolute beginner, with no prior contact with the language) to C2 (full proficiency). For families whose children have not yet studied English formally, it is the only camp in this curation that opens that door for this age group.

The campus sits on the coast of Eastbourne, in the county of Sussex, southern England. The partner preparatory school has over a hundred years of tradition and an environment deliberately close to a "family home", different from a large university campus. That smaller scale matters for young children: the number of adults per group is sized for close supervision.

  • Residential: the child sleeps and has meals on campus (up to 60 students per week)
  • Day student: returns to external accommodation at the end of the afternoon (up to 40 students per week)

The residential option favors full immersion and independence; the day student option works better when the family is staying in Eastbourne, including within the context of the Parent Programme.

How does the English program for beginners work?

There are 17.5 hours of classes per week, organized into three pedagogical blocks:

  • English Skills: vocabulary, listening comprehension, and first grammatical structures, adapted to the age group
  • StoryTime: guided reading and interpretation of stories in English, with visual support
  • Explorations: themed classes outside the classroom, applying English in real contexts on campus and in the surrounding area

Classes are made up of children at the same proficiency level, not the same age. A six-year-old with some background may be in a different group from a ten-year-old beginner. This avoids the pacing problem that appears in generic programs, where the most advanced gets bored while the beginner falls behind.

A two-week exchange in England works with this logic of grouping by level in practically all British programs. Applied from age 6, it ensures real progression even in short modules.

Which optional academies can the child choose?

In addition to the English classes, there are themed academies available as a paid weekly add-on. They are not mandatory and do not require any prior technical level:

Academy

Main focus

Film & Animation

short film creation and basic animation

LEGO & Coding

playful robotics and programming logic

Horse Riding

supervised riding in a campus area

Indoor Climbing

indoor wall climbing with equipment

Swimming

swimming and water activities

Tennis

introduction and technical training on courts

Zookeeper Experience

animal care supervised by staff

The family chooses one academy per week and can vary the choice with each module. The goal is exposure to different areas, which makes sense for the 6 to 11 age range.

What is the Parent Programme and how does it work in practice?

The partner operator offers a structured English program for parents or adult companions who want to stay in Eastbourne during the camp weeks. The guardian stays in a hotel or B&B in the city, attends English classes in a dedicated adult program with classes by level, and has access to the campus at fixed times.

The practical effects for families are twofold:

  • The child knows the guardians are nearby, which reduces the impact of homesickness during the first nights
  • The parents have a routine of their own, with classes and activities in Eastbourne, instead of waiting passively in a hotel

For a family whose child is traveling abroad for the first time, this model removes much of the anxiety on both sides without undermining the immersion. British summer schools rarely offer anything equivalent for this age group, which makes the Parent Programme a real differentiator in the market.

What to organize before booking?

Parents planning this trip have a better experience when they organize two to three months in advance. The documents vary according to the chosen format:

  • Valid child's passport: mandatory for any destination in the United Kingdom
  • ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation): digital process, 24 to 72 hours, requested with the child's passport
  • Travel authorization: required when the child travels with only one of the guardians
  • Unaccompanied minor: for children traveling alone in the residential format, arranged with the airline

When the family travels together, the typical format of the Parent Programme, the process is the same as any family trip to the United Kingdom.

The documentation is part of the process covered by the curation of vocational summer camps for young people, which includes guidance from choosing the module to pre-travel support. The Berkshire summer camp, which serves teenagers in the same destination, requires this same advance planning, since the documentation process is standardized for all British programs.

Frequently asked questions

Does the program accept children who have never studied English?
Yes. The program operates with eight levels, from A0 to C2. It is the only camp in this curation that accepts absolute beginners in the 6 to 11 age range. Classes are made up of children at the same proficiency level, not the same age, which ensures an appropriate pace of progression.

Can a 6-year-old adapt well to a residential camp outside the country?
It depends on the child's profile. The campus has a small scale, a "family home" environment, and monitors trained for this age group. For families uncertain about their child's maturity, the day student format and the Parent Programme reduce the distance without eliminating the immersion: parents stay at the hotel in Eastbourne and visit the campus at fixed times.

Do parents need to speak English to take part in the Parent Programme?
No. The adult program has classes by level, including absolute beginners. The aim is precisely to give guardians a useful structure in Eastbourne, regardless of their English.

How many weeks can the family choose?
From one to seven weeks, in flexible weekly modules, between June 28 and August 15, 2026. Each week is independent: the family decides the total duration and chooses the optional academies week by week, with no minimum requirement beyond one week.

Is this program suitable for children who are beginners in English or only for those who already speak the language?
For both profiles. The eight levels from A0 to C2 mean that children with no English at all enter a class of their own while the more advanced have a challenging class. The difference compared to British short courses for teenagers is precisely this: the range starts at zero, not at A2.
